May Day
Happy International Workers' Day, AANHPI Heritage Month, Mental Health Awareness Month, KEXP Pushing Boundaries
I’m sitting in Hood Famous Cafe + Bar on a sunny Seattle morning where the temp is supposed to hit mid-70s later, prepping a playlist for this afternoon.
Later today, I’ll be walking over a couple blocks to A Resting Place, which is hosting a live KEXP broadcast from 10am-4pm as part of Pushing Boundaries: Celebrating Asian & Pasifika Experiences Through Music. It’s an annual thing we do every May, kicking off the 1st of the month with daylong programming from AANHPI DJs. I’m filling in as host of The Afternoon Show (1pm-4pm) playing my favorite Asia/Pasifika/diaspora and -adjacent songs to celebrate.
From 10am-1pm today, my KEXP and SEA Vinyl Society colleague and Eastern Echoes host Diana Ratsamee will be hosting The Midday Show. Check her out crushing this all-vinyl mx of Thai Psych, Molam, Luk Thung & Soul in Humano Studios that dropped a couple weeks ago.
