What I Listened To This Week 2025-03-07
Music was both the last thing on my mind and the first thing that got me through
These weekly music recaps usually go out on Friday morning, but last week, a dark cloud descended upon me and my fam. It’s heel turn season: in the squared circle, on the geopolitical chessboard, in our own schools and communities. Music was both the last thing on my mind and the first thing that got me through.
In this seasonal transition within a transitional era, in a world of many worlds, amidst the seemingly daily passing of Legends, the vulnerable and displaced remain under attack. Their protectors anticipate, and have often received, wrath. The emboldened supremacists continue attacking, and their apologists anticipate, and have often received, reward.
If you live in America, good luck. Hold the line. Everywhere else: don’t cry for us. Whether you fasting or fighting or both, I offer you strength.
Perhaps you’ve been thinking about writing your way through these transitions, too:

New-ish Ish
New(er) music I enjoyed but didn’t have the energy to write about:

On the Radio
I filled in on three shows on KEXP since the last post: Street Sounds (2/28 10pm), Saturday afternoon (3/1 12pm), and The Afternoon Show (3/3 1pm). As always, you can hit the KEXP.org archive for any shows within the last two weeks.
For shows no longer in the archive, you can find some of my favorite sets up on my Mixcloud page. Here’s the most recent one:

The best thing I listened to all week, though, as a shitstorm whirled around me, was this conversation between Jon Stewart and Maria Ressa.

Thanks for taking the time to share in the midst of the shitstorm and for the reminder to check out the Stewart-Ressa convo - it crossed my TL but I didn’t get chance to tune in. Will do! Sending strength and solidarity ✊🏼
