Hello Again, Again
The world is burning and freezing at the same time and the machine is ubiquitous but at least we still have each other
So, your mans mostly sat out the internet in 2024, which was not entirely by design, but, in hindsight, feels like the right move. For those who kept their paid subscriptions alive, my bad and thank you. Your patronage helped me offset the cost of my subscriptions to other writers and all the books I bought and partially read last year.
The photo/essay book project that initially launched this newsletter in 2021 took yet another detour and got shelved as I took up being radio DJ, which turned into also being a DJ DJ, which meant that I spent the time that I would have been writing for no money instead playing music for some money. Missed the previous self-imposed deadline of finishing a complete first draft by end of 2023, but had a great meeting with my co-writer and editor last summer and they still got my back. At least the book now has a working title, which shares the name of this newsletter: Brownouts.
Anyway, I’m back, for now, here to pick up where we left off, but also to pivot. Book progress will move into the background as I write in 2025 about what I spent all of 2024 immersed in: music. New music I’m listening to and inspired by and have thoughts about, old music I’m discovering for the first time or revisiting for the 1,000th, playlists, archived DJ sets and radio shows, and—here’s what I’m lowkey here for most of all— original, new music I’ve written and recorded over the last few months and old unreleased shit I’ve been sitting on for years that I’ll be releasing this year.
Good chat, chat. Have a great weekend.
